Flowers and Stuff...

The Bag Lady had rather a busy day yesterday and didn't have time to write a proper post. When she went out first thing in the morning to check cows, she discovered the bulls had found their way into a different pasture! The Bag Lady and the Cowboy had, fortunately, kept a "buffer" pasture between the bulls and the cows - they don't want the bulls breeding the cows yet because they would calve too early next year. So the Cowboy and the Bag Lady had to do some re-arranging of animals this morning.

Then they had to do some other running around, re-arranging vehicles, among other things. And then they loaded up a couple of animals to go to the stockyard. There was a 2-year old steer that needed to go, and they took the cow that wouldn't take care of her calf. Can't have an animal that won't do her job!

The Bag Lady also did some work on some of her projects, and did some weeding in her flowerbed. While she was doing that, she noticed a few flowers blooming.

Here is one of her first irises:

And here is a pansy:

And she isn't sure what these are called, but they are pretty little things:

Her strawberries are blooming, too!

The Bag Lady got a haircut on Monday when she was in town. She went to a walk-in place, and got what she deserved!

She went from this:

To this:

(Gee, it's hard to take photos of the back of your head when you're too lazy to try to figure out how to use the camera properly....)

  3. Let's see... the "stockyard." Gosh, it has "yard" in it, maybe that's where some of the cows go to run around for a while and do "play therapy" and work through their issues so they can return with a better attitude?

(I am obviously in serious denial about where all that yummy barbecue meat comes from.)

  4. Blooming strawberries. I can taste them already.

I'm sure everything will work out with your hair.

  5. Crabby - perhaps I should have said Auction Mart - we just take them to a place to be sold to new owners, where they can go on to other things... and we don't want to know beyond that! :)

dfLeah - yes, looking forward to those new strawberries! Am thinking this might be a good year for berries - there seem to be a lot of wild strawberries in bloom, too!

  6. I hereby suggest that any of those unmentionable BAD cow places be referred to as MOOOrery School.. where bovines go to make new friends, play and begin their edmoocation... and udder stuff.

    Pretty wee flowers, Baggie. :)

  7. Okay, Hilary - that's how we'll refer to them from now on!

  8. You just sent them off to Bovine University didn't you? :)

You do have thick hair...and I'm envious of th strawberries. They don't like to grow in my yard...something about me forgetting to water them? :)

  9. Geosomin - yup, they'll get an education where they're going!

The strawberries just keep reproducing - when I started out with them, I had 3 plants. They have even, somehow, spread to the other side of the step. And I don't water them. At least, not often.

  11. Thanks, dfTerrie!
I have a lot of hair. It used to be quite a bit curlier than it is now, but it still has enough of a mind of it's own that it can drive me crazy if it's not cut properly - like now! Sticks out every which way and makes me look like I lost my comb. Sigh.

  12. Beautiful flowers Sis. Now you know how I felt about my hair all those years. I can afford to get a cut this month, I'll take a photo before I go, in case this is the last I see of the curls though!

  13. Nice curls! That's pretty much what mine does when I cut it short. Which I may do this summer also....
    Strawberries...mmmm...
I live on Planet Denial too. They just go and live on a farm somewhere, right?? right?

  14. Reb - hopefully your curls will remain now.

Missicat - yeah, they do... well, at least, the female probably will. The steer, on the other hand.....

  18. BG - true enough! Hubby always says the difference between a good haircut and bad one is about 2 weeks....

  19. I think your hair looks maahhhhhhvelous!

Is there a bovine home for unfit mothers? Do they get a 3 strike system for neglectful parenting or is it straight to the butcher for them?

  20. All my spring flowers are waning already thanks to the mid-90's heat wave the past week. :(

The daylilies, snapdragons, and alyssum are gorgeous here while they last.

  21. EWBL - thanks!
There's no 3-strike system around here. One strike and you're out. She may make a new start on someone else's ranch.... hopefully, she'll change her ways!
The flowers around here seem to go quickly, too, but only because our season is short.

  22. Fresh berries.... oh goodness.

A good haircut is the one thing I keep even when I'm trying to save money. I've cut out manicures and pedicures and I even color my own hair. But I must have a cute cut!

  23. SB - my hair grows so darned fast, it doesn't much matter about the cut...
