If you put the rug together in a week how did you get all the other stuff done? My suggestion for flattening the rug is based on experience with crochet, not braiding, but I would dampen the rug and place something flat (plywood?) over the whole thing and weight it down evenly. It <i>ought</i> to dry flat.
