Photo Finish Friday - Solstice

This is the Bag Lady's favourite time of year. The days are long. Everything is growing.

She took this picture at 11:00 at night on the last day of spring.

She has been busy drinking beer and goofing off with many things recently and hasn't been paying as much attention to blogging as she should. But it's summer! She likes to be outside in the summer. It rained about 3 inches last week, which helped things grow. Especially the weeds. The Rancher ran the tiller between the rows of the garden to knock down a few weeds.... good thing, too, because it's supposed to rain some more!

Have a great weekend!

Photo Finish Friday - Rhubarb Pie

The Bag Lady inherited this pie plate from her mother. The Bag Lady's father always teased that it was designed specifically for rhubarb - according to him, it saved time because there was no need to chop the rhubarb!

The Bag Lady was practically a teenager before she realized that most people use round pie plates. She was confused by round pie plates.... where were the special end pieces with the extra crust for the kids to fight over??

Rhubarb Pie Recipe

4 cups rhubarb, chopped into 1 inch pieces
1 2/3 cups sugar
1/3 cup flour
dash salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)

1 prepared 2-crust pie

Mix rhubarb, sugar, flour, salt and nutmeg and let stand while preparing pie crust.
Add rhubarb mixture to pie crust, dot with butter, cover with top crust.
Bake in 400F oven for 40 minutes.

Alberta's Provincial Flower

It's that time of year again.

The wild roses are blooming!

(This picture is actually from last year - the Bag Lady is getting lazy in her old age and doesn't want to trudge outside to take a picture!)

Driving Ms Bossy

It's that time of year again.
Cattle-moving time.
The Rancher and the Bag Lady helped a neighbour move his cows from his winter feeding area to summer pasture. There were several trailer-loads, but it was a short trip. In fact, the neighbour had debated about driving the cattle (as opposed to trucking the cattle) but decided that the fellow with the freshly-seeded, un-fenced field along the way might not be too happy if the cows decided to visit that new growth.
With the help of a few friends and their stock trailers, the job took no time at all.

Releasing the first load:

C'mon out girls...

The nearly empty corral...

Later in the afternoon, a little sun-shower to finish the day:

The Rancher and the Bag Lady will be moving their own cattle to summer pasture sometime in the near future as well. But not yet.

Poor Tree!

This is how that lovely crabapple tree looked this morning! An unseasonal snowstorm went through yesterday and deposited a heavy load onto the poor tree.

With any luck, the temperatures will return to normal today and the tree will recover quickly.

Photo Finish Friday - Bumbling About

This is the Bag Lady's crapabble crabapple tree. (Spellcheck doesn't like either of those words, by the way!)

If you look closely, you can see a bee or two - the whole tree was buzzing! (for all the good it does - there isn't another apple tree close by, so this one never produces any apples. It's all for show.)
